My Glasses

Yay!!! I finally can see….Like for reals!!!

IMG_3112

It’s been way too long and I am very, very grateful. I broke my last pair not too long after I got them and just never got another pair – I got more contacts – but contacts and I don’t really get a long. It’s kind of amazing the difference in being able to see and not. Seeing someones eyes on the tv and not have it all be so fuzzy!! haha. It’s the little things in life isn’t it? And as I took this picture of myself I am now realizing they obviously did not put on the anti reflective coating I paid for!! I guess I’ll be heading back this weekend. That’s kind of a bummer. :/ But like I mentioned at the start I  truly am grateful for my new glasses. And I think they are pretty cute! 🙂

New Tahari duvet

IMG_3104
I went to Home Goods a couple days ago and scored this super cute Tahari Duvet cover for my bed. ONLY $25 – super score!!! I LOVE HOME GOODS!!! The bed still needs some love I know with some pillows and such.  But I’m happy with the find.
I have also been debating whether or not to paint my bed possibly a white or super soft grey??? But this is a start towards a little bedroom makeover!!

Adele Track Pants

IMG_3102
I LOVE track pants. They are the comfiest thing in the world. I went in to Cotton On and bought me a maroon pair which they aren’t showing online here! And wore them for like 3 days straight. Heaven – then my husband was running to the mall to pick up his computer and I asked him to grab me another pair. And he came back with not one but 2!!! AWWWW!!! He’s such a sweetheart gotta love a guy who does that. So I now  have 3. Maroon, dark grey/black and the Eva Red Marle (or coral is what I would call it) And hello they are only $15. You can find them HERE

My new lovely aromatherapy Necklace

IMG_3094

A sweet friend Michelle made this necklace for me. On the back of the square peice is a felt pad where you put a few drops of essential oils on it. I really was surprised how long the scent lasts. I have been putting bergamot oil on the pad. It’s one of my favorite oils right now!! Very Calming – purifying and cleansing for the skin. You can add in your tea.

Citrus Coconut Macaroon Cookies

IMG_3157

These babies are healthy and so easy!!! I got this recipe from Rachel at Clean Food Crush. She has amazing recipes!!! Hers are called Sweet Meyer Lemon Coconut Macaroons.
I did not have a lemon but I did have oranges that Jeff is growing in our basement. {crazy i know – it’s pretty cool – they are the juiciest things ever!!!! So I added juice from an orange and added lemon essential oil. Her recipe does not call for coconut flour I added it because mine seemed a little runny but most likely to how much orange juice I put in.

These really are so good – no sugar and gluten free.

Simple Directions for 12 cookies:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Coat cookie sheet with coconut oil(lightly)

In large bowl combine the following ingredients:

2 cups unsweetened shredded coconut flakes
2 egg whites – I just used liquid egg whites.
Juice of half an orange
5-10 drops lemon essential oil (I only use pure essential oils – message me for my recommendations if you like)
1 tablespoon coconut flour
1/4 tsp vanilla extract ●
Stevia to taste 25 drops or a tsp or so of the powder.

{Combine all ingredients very well with a fork. Smash into Tablespoon size balls
I used a small cookie scoop.

It’s VERY important to press together firmly, so they keep their shape & not crumble during baking.
Bake at 350 for 12-13 minutes, just until sides begin to brown.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

Much love & wellness

Florida Getaway ……. Yeah!!!

IMG_1908
I just got back from a trip to Florida to surprise my sister Angie who was about to Turn 40 in a few days.  My bday is the day before heres, we are only one day less than a year apart. We normally spend our birthdays apart and each year we say how stupid it is that we aren’t celebrating them together!! Well I couldn’t let that happen with her turning 40 and I having a plane ticket credit that needed to be used by December. So I spoke with her husband to let him know I was wanting to come out for a surprise and he would need to pick me up from the airport.

With my sweet husband and older kids on board to let me leave and knowing that they were going to take over and take care of the little kids I was off and on my way.
Scot picked me up and drove to their home. I got out of the car as he pulled in the garage and went into say hello then a few minutes later I went to front door and rang the door bell “SURPRISE”!!!  It was so fun to see her and be there for her!! I had not been out in over 3 years….way to long!!

Her husband  did another huge surprise for her and I got to reap the benefits and had rented a 3 bedroom condo right on the beach at Indian Shores Beach for the next two nights!!! So we stayed the first night at her house and then packed up and headed for the beach next morning about an hour away!!

IMG_1919

I came luckily at the right time because there had been so much rain the days prior to me being there. The first couple of days were absultely beautiful warm and sunny!!
The last day it did decide to pour rain around noon so that was that!! And we headed out, It was amazing while it lasted, The sun, ocean and listening to the waves for a few days was amazingly good for the soul.

IMG_1936                                                   { HAPPY 40TH Sister!!! }

We ate some delicious food while we were there. So much fun – After the beach was over headed back to Angie and Scot’s house for the rest of the trip – relaxed by the pool, ate more yummy food and got mani and pedicures and my last night I gave the whole family some love and thankfulness for having me with aromatherapy massages.

My sister is such a great support to me and I love being so close to her and being able to share such special times together – for reals and virtual – of course in person is best!!

I can’t wait to go back and bring the whole family next time. We’ll try to make that in well under another 3 years.

Love flying Southwest they have a fun spirit about them And they are funny! My favorite line from last flight was.

“There is no smoking in the airplane – if you feel the need to smoke you can take a step out onto the wing and if you can light it you can smoke it!”

Ha pretty cute!!

My husband and the two littles surprised me waiting at the the baggage claim for me with lots of welcome home cards!! They all survived me being away for a week. I think it went ok for them. There were a couple of sad times I had done FaceTime with the kids and poor little Wilkie never wanted me to say goodbye and cried the saddest little cry and please don’t say good bye and for me to come home. ;( Oh that’s so hard!!! But it is amazing how a week can go by in about 2 days and you’re already back on a plane headed home!! I am so grateful for everyone taking over and letting me go! I missed everyone like crazy nice to be home but nice to get away!!

Travel going anywhere even if it’s a couple hours away can be a great escape if you don’t have the time or money to go out of state. We have done many getaways to Park City, St. George and even Salt Lake.

Do you have a favorite place to travel? Going on a trip soon? Would love to hear!!

Blog in Transition….Embracing Change

EMBRACE CHANGEI found this little book at a cute little home store in Fairview when I went to visit my mom a few weeks ago. Embracing change by Kelly Rae Roberts – a short and sweet book of encouragement. It spoke to my soul. There actually were quite a few of these types of books from this author. Love her style and what she is doing!! I did see the books are available on amazon and she has website.

My blog is in a bit of transition as I feel is also happening in my real life as well.
I’ve pretty much wiped the blog clean leaving basically a few recipes posts….
You may or may not have heard the FDA has been coming down on  business’ in the natural/alternative health field who may make health claims. Right now a big one in the spotlight is essential oil companies since they have become more and more mainstream and everyone is wanting to learn how to use for themselves and their families. Any claims being made by essential oil companies and its representatives of said company is not okay since it may be considered a drug claim where prescription or over the counter medicines may be available for that. Even if the claims are true of personal experience with the oils helping them/me/you with a health concern we can’t say that it helped my sinus infection or my grandmas arthritis. It will all be more generically said. Makes perfect sense. Right? Not so much. You know big pharma doesn’t want you to be taking something natural that doesn’t benefit them.

So I have deleted many, many past posts of success stories and that may or may not have had drug related success claims.

But that’s A – ok!!!  I am moving on, not from essential oils but just doing it different.
I’m still going to post about natural remedies that are near and dear to my heart and such just in a different way and not brand specific for some things. If you want to learn more about essential oils and which brand I prefer, have questions??
email me amypond127@gmail.com I’m always happy to chat.

I’m also going to be doing lots more personal posts – {actually I have been doing all along but just haven’t hit POST for one mind tricking, self doubting moment or other. I’m going to try to stop that. I’m never going to grow to where I want to be.
I’m going to “Embrace Change”.

7 Ways Essential Oils can help your baby sleep.

Essential-Oil-Baby-Sleep

Have you wondered about how essential oils can help with babies?
If they can help with sleep and calming?
Here is a blog post I helped out with for Baby Sleep Site.

Choosing and Using Essential Oils With Your Baby

First off, it is very important to make sure that your aromatherapy essential oils are pure therapeutic grade. Some store bought essential oils can have unwanted ingredients like fillers, pesticides, chemicals, fragrance and other synthetic additives, which don’t have the same benefits as a PURE oil. It’s also important to remember that less is more! Often, 1 or 2 drops is all you need. Remember to always, always use a carrier oil when using essential oils on babies and children. Carrier oils need to be used for a couple reasons – they help dilute the very concentrated essential oils, they help aid in distributing the oils evenly, and they prevent the essential oils from evaporating too quickly. Good carrier oils include olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and jojoba oil. Dilution ratios are approximately 1-2 drops per 2 tablespoons of carrier oil for a baby, and 1-2 drops per 1/2-1 teaspoon for a toddler or preschooler. Now, when it comes to choosing oils, it’s important to note that how oils affect the nervous system will vary from person to person – so you may need to try other oils around bedtime to help your baby relax. Oils that work for your friends’ children may not work for yours. In fact, certain oils can actually have opposite effects on different people. For instance, wild orange is generally used as an energizing, pick-me-up oil for adults, but it can have the opposite effect on children, and be wonderfully calming before bed.

7 Ways Essential Oils Can Help Your Baby Sleep

1. Try a bedtime massage

Just before bed, and maybe right after bath, give your baby a nice massage with oil. Mix 1- 2 drops of lavender & roman chamomile with 2 tablespoons carrier oil and. rub all along the arms, legs, back, tummy, feet, ears. The massage itself is relaxing, and the fragrance of the oils will set the tone for a calm and peaceful night.

2. Diffuse the oils in your baby’s bedroom at bedtime

Just breathing and smelling the oils can work wonders for all of us – parents and children alike! You can put a drop of lavender on your child’s mattress, pillow, or lovey. Diffusing essential oils can actually help clean and purify the air in your child’s room, and can also be used to help with respiratory problems. Just a side note – I suggest using a cold air ultrasonic diffuser. Heating the oils can lessen their beneficial properties.

3. Use oils at bathtime

Bathtime can become relaxing time! You can put a few drops of lavender or roman chamomile in the bathwater with a liquid soap or with Epsom salt, to help it disperse throughout the water.

4. Use essential oils to alleviate teething pain

Stick with me here – teething does impact sleep, since it’s one of the many reasons why sleep can derail! If your baby is struggling with teething pain, try 1 drop of clove oil diluted in one tablespoon of carrier oil – then, dip your finger in mixture and place directly on gums. You can rub diluted lavender oil along the jawline as well to help with teething pain. White fir and roman chamomile oil can also help alleviate teething pain, when applied directly to the gums.

5. Use essential oils to lessen discomfort from earaches

If ear pain is keeping your baby up, try lavender oil to help with the pain. Rub diluted oil in front of and behind the outside of the ear. Melaleuca (tea tree) and basil oil are also great and can help with infection – put a drop of each oil on a cotton ball and place inside the ear and/ or rub all around the ear. You can reapply as needed for pain. (Quick disclaimer regarding earaches – if your baby’s ears hurt, it’s best to see a healthcare provider for further evaluation. While essential oils can help alleviate pain, most healthcare providers will want to evaluate and treat an infection themselves.)

6. Try essential oils to help with colic / tummy pain

Stomach discomfort is obviously a big problem when you’re trying to get your little one to sleep! Fortunately, essential oils can help. Ginger, fennel, lavender, wild orange, marjoram, or roman chamomile are all great oils for easing stomach trouble gently and naturally. Dilute a couple of drops with tablespoon carrier oil, and rub clock wise on tummy a few times. (Again – if you believe you child’s tummy trouble may be due to a more serious health problem, see a healthcare provider.)

7.Essential oils can help alleviate coughing

Blend peppermint, eucalyptus, or melalueca with a carrier oil, rub on the bottoms of your child’s feet, and then put socks on your child. Finally, rub the diluted oil on your child’s chest. This can work wonders at reducing and eliminating a persistent cough (although once again, if you suspect your child is ill, you’ll want to see a healthcare provider for evaluation – the oils are meant to alleviate the symptoms of illness, not to treat the illness itself). You can also use the diluted oil in a diffuser, so that your child gets the benefit of breathing in the aroma.

Vegetable Curry Soup

veg curry soup

I posted this soup on instagram a couple months ago and my “dear” sister told me it looked like the saddest soup she has ever seen!     What???   Whatever – Well it tastes delicious – seriously and I think it looks delish too!!

Now looking at it again and thinking of it – I’ve got to make it again – like now!!

I will admit I actually did make a very sad …. dreadful is probably a better word – looking soup a few days after this that looked like it would have been the soup that Charlie and his poor family would have been eating in the beds from the original Charlie and chocolate factory – Here’s a tip don’t put purple cabbage in any soup especially with white potatoes and ground turkey – Ugh Awful!!!

Ingredients –

2 Tbls  Butter
1/4 c Coconut oil
2 Tbls Curry Powder
1/2 tsp Garam Masala powder
2 tsp Dijon mustard
Paprika
Chopped Garlic
Minced Ginger
Flour
S&P
1 large Onion
5 stalks Celery
1 Sweet Potato
1 large white &/ or 4 red potato’s
8 cups Chicken stock or broth
1 cup Half & Half

In large pot on stove I made a roux with butter and coconut oil, flour, curry powder, masala powder, mustard, paprika, Salt and Pepper –
Once that is all mixed and “rouxed” up
Add in chopped onion, garlic & ginger Saute’ for a bit then add
6-8 cups Chicken or vegetable Broth / stock Diced – Carrots, Celery Sweet Potato’s Red and/ or white Potato’s.
Let soup come to a boil for a few minutes then turn to low, pour in half and half cover and simmer for at least a couple hours.

Season as you like + or –  ….. and enjoy!
+++ Other add ins you could do – Rotisserie chicken. Rice, noodles, quinoa, beans (like white kidney, or garbanzo , coconut milk. I just did stuff I had on hand and it was perfect.
I would love to hear if you make it & what your thoughts are.

Gratitude and Generosity

gratitude
Is it just me or does Thanksgiving get the short end of the stick more and more each year. It’s really kind of bugging me!! I went to Target last week hoping to pick up a couple decorations for Thanksgiving and I had envisioned a Give Thanks type of banner for my mantle or on my wall – Um that’s not happening – there was not one decoration that I found – all Christmas. Such a bummer. I mentioned something to the girl at check out and she said they had cleared it all out after Halloween. What??? I don’t get it? I think it’s sad.

I want to tell you about a Gratitude and Generosity series that Tiffany Peterson does every year that I am in love with! I am late in introducing this to you but there is still time to get in on the love and spirit of the Thanksgiving season. Tiffany is a mentor and huge inspiration to me. She is an incredible speaker that I was immediately smitten with her the first time I heard her speak.

Tiffany has a guest each Wednesday in Nov. that she talks with.
Just go  to www.gratitudeseries.com and enter your email.
You will immediately get last wednesdays call with Ann Webb – love her too.
you will have access to listen to that call until this Wednesday’s new session.
Dan Clark was first week – It was SO good – sorry I’m so late dang it –
(you can purchase session from her though – so you haven’t fully  missed out)
He really was incredible and had some great stories that were tear jerkers for sure!

Tiffany asks for 3 things during this series….

PLAY FULL OUT

1. When you first wake  thank God/Universe for another day of life .

2. Express your gratitude in writing – Write at least 5 things you are thankful for each day.
Either in a specific gratitude journal or a just a notebook.

3. Give back to someone daily. Kind acts for others.
It doesn’t have to be a lot of money – it can be your time.
send thank you notes, or thinking of you notes, buy someones coffee or meal anonymously,  Make dinner for a neighbor, watch their children so they can have a break or go on a date with their loved one, Tell someone how much you appreciate them, what they have done to make a difference in your life, volunteer, leave secret gifts……

gratitudecards

I bought these cards from the store the other day – Hallmark has a .49 cent section! Who knew? This made my day – I have a hard time paying $7 for a card call me crazy – and they really have some cute ones – so again you don’t have to spend a lot it’s the little things that you can do for others. Even just sending a text and telling someone thank you or you have been thinking about them – besides just thinking it – ACTUALLY DO IT!

I am grateful for Tiffany and this series and I am Grateful for YOU.

I would love to hear your feedback from those of you that take the time to listen and join the group.

Again to participate go HERE

Much Love, Wellness AND Gratitude

Let Freedom Ring – Abby Anderson – This song will give you chills! Happy 4th

Happy 4th of July!!! I have to tell you about this song I keep thinking about – (Well actually two of them) – they are so beautiful and sweet!
One for fathers & daughters/brides “Daddy” and one for the 4th of July – “Let Freedom Ring” both by Abby Anderson

I was at my parents house a couple of weeks ago, Fathers Day weekend and my dad was telling me about this “incredible, patriotic song that a 17 year old girl named Abby Anderson sang on Glen Beck the other day! The best rendition he had ever heard” She had re-wrote – rearranged  “My country Tis of Thee”  into   “Let Freedom Ring”  the night before – mind you – she was to sing a song at graduation! Wow. Here it is!

Did I mention she is 17 years old!!!!    Amazing – I love it!
You can download it on itunes for .99 cents and it all goes to charity for veterans and edcuation.

When my dad was trying to pull up the song on you tube – we first found this video of Abby’s called “Daddy” which was so ironic because I was also at my dad’s for our surprise wedding that my fiance Jeff and I had been secretly planning & were going to be having there the next day – My dad and no one else in my family had a clue  about – so when this song came on I was trying so hard not to cry & hide my emotions – it was so sweet! My dad hadn’t heard this song before either but we both just sat there and listened and watched this sweet video about a girl and love she had for her dad and new love/husband.
Talk about perfect crazy timing!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnUX1CHeDhc

(Details & pics of our surprise wedding will be on the blog  soon)

I’d love to hear what you think of these songs.

Happy 4th of July everyone – Hope it is a great and safe day for everyone!

***Oh and if you have dogs that are scared of the fireworks? Did you know that essential oils can help calm them? Diffusing  lavender oil and calming blends & putting a little oil on their paws, along the spine and rubbing on their chest helps to calm them.
Also if you’re going out, leave the tv on for them with some noise in the house.
